Thousands of people are born with or develop drooping upper eyelids. In addition to sagging upper eyelids, lower eyelids can also droop. This phenomenon can cause even the youngest patient to look older, more tired or even more angry than they truly are.
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is available to most patients for the repair of sagging eyelids. Blepharoplasty can be performed to correct droopiness of either the upper or lower lid – or both. While usually cosmetic in nature, blepharoplasty may also be medically necessary for patients whose upper eyelids have started to interfere with the ability to see.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess eyelid skin on the top lids or lifts the sagging skin below the eyes. Your skin and tissue will be repositioning and removed to create a beautiful and youthful appearance. Small incisions will be made inside the natural creases of your eyelids so that they will not be visible once healed.
Swelling and bruising may occur and last for a week or two following surgery, but will disappear in the next several weeks.
